era, so those successes are unlikely to be replicated. Ditto. Disney may again “win” in terms of market share for 2020, but not by as big of a gap.Conversely, and this also plays into the whole “total domestic box office down by 3.6%” thing, rival studios shifted some of their biggest potential earners out of 2019 and into 2020. Warner Bros., Paramount and Universal all held back potential blockbuster offerings until after Disney had released their biggest and brightest .
More importantly, I’m reasonably confident that those movies would have earned at least enough to cover what will/could be a mere $48 million difference between 2019 and 2018. Issues with Disney’s current domination and the lure of superhero flicks at the expense of other franchise faire aside, this isn’t that different than what we saw in 2014.
DC is terrible at movie making.
