Govt to introduce tax identification number next year

Deputy Finance Minister Amiruddin Hamzah says despite the healthy increase in tax revenue, Malaysia still collects significantly lower taxes than some other countries. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, January 9, 2020.

THE government will introduce a tax identification number for businesses and individual earners aged 18 and above beginning in January 2021, said Deputy Finance Minister Amiruddin Hamzah today. This initiative would ensure no taxpayers fail to fulfil their tax obligations, while providing justice to those who have long been responsible in paying their taxes, he said.
