Congratulations to those men – I guess? Issa Rae summarised the mixed feelings of many when yet another all-male list of best director Oscar nominations was announced yesterday. It’s possible to note – entirely without snide – that it has been a bumper year for films about men by men.
Since when owners of vagina are on the 'must list '? Aren't best directors chosen by some other criteria? I am a woman and I don't care which gender are nominees and the winner as long as they are awesome at what they do!

You do not just nominate women because of who they are. Did you even think that perhaps there were none deserving of the nomination? You have to earn. Maybe none did this year.
Which ground breaking, female directed movie should have been nominated? 'Booksmart' or 'Charlie's Angels'? Of course both of them crushed box office records but financial success doesn't always lead to prestigious awards like the Oscars.

Sure, just because a woman is director she should be nominated? Wtf! If they keep making movies like Charlie's Angel they should not be nominated. Years ago hurt locker won and was directed by a woman. If you are good you are nominated like Meryl Streep almost every year.
Watch a good movie skip the credits. Skip the Oscars.

There should be more nominations in each category. When there's like five BP slots and Scorsese, Mendes and Tarantino release films in the same year it's a bit unfair. But should women be nominated just to tick a box rather than because they made a good film?

May be there weren’t good enough movies directed by female directors this year. I as a female think that all those nominated were great films regardless of any gender issues. You just can’t take every opportunity to raise the gender issues and or race issues.
Oscars are not important as they are purchased. The BAFTAs are important.
