House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today blasted Facebook for putting profits over the well-being of its users and for cozying up to the Trump administration as it faces antitrust scrutiny from federal regulators, offering a scathing and public rebuke of the social media giant.
“The Facebook business model is strictly to make money,” the California Democrat said at a press conference on Capitol Hill to discuss impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump. “They don't care about the impact on children, they don't care about truth.”She later added, “All they want are their tax cuts and no anti-trust action against them. And they schmooze this administration in that regard because so far that's what they have received.
Pelosi today accused the company of serving as “accomplices for misleading the American people with money from God knows where.” Facebook also drew the ire of congressional Democrats over a previously undisclosed meeting between its CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Trump at the White House last year. Liberal lawmakers accused the company of seeking to curry favor with the administration to ward off regulatory scrutiny.
