Joaquin Phoenix called out the film industry's 'systemic racism' at the BAFTAs. Watch his full speech here:

He continued: “I don’t think anybody wants a handout or preferential treatment, although that’s what we give ourselves every year. I think people just want to be acknowledged, appreciated and respected for their work.”“I have not done everything in my power to ensure that the sets I work on are inclusive, but I think it’s more than just having sets that are multicultural,” he concluded.

When asked specifically about diversity in the organization he added, “We are going in the right direction. “It’s not like it was before. When they see it, they will get into stuff like this and get nominated.” Prince William also weighed in on the issue, suggesting that it was “not right in this day and age” that we must keep discussing diversity and equality.

stupid people talking about just black people when talking about racism. How about Asians? Here is the true fact. Palme d'or of 2019's winner is Parasite which is the Korean movie. The actors are all Korean. But why nobody from the movie was nominated for this award at all?

If you are insisting that this awards are for people who have done well regardless of color, you need to acknowledge that you were a racist too

This speech was really powerfully executed .

That means you too

I'd rather see actors of various color and gender playing roles instead of just playing characters of their color and gender.

And frankly I'm kinda tired of seeing black characters that are so one-note. We all dance real good. We're the tallest people in the room. We like the same music. We live the same lives. At least according to the entertainment industry.

Movies, television, music, and every other form of artistic expression has never been more diverse. We've actually reached the point in which commercials are almost laughably over-representing people of color. Awards don't reflect that, but awards don't actually matter.

LennyHenry He's on theatrical stage It's so easy for a celeb to do these days

thanks for posting JoaqPhoenix speech. Our Oscar podcast at briefly discusses this. I did notice the dismal audience response and the lack of a standing ovation. Eager to see how he assists with the issue. wbpictures 20thcentury
