Four former ministers have signed a letter that calls for high risk vendors, like Huawei, to be ruled out immediately or phased out over time.
Conservatives fear for national security after the UK granted Chinese telco Huawei access to its 5G network despite the company’s assurance it would never breach its client’s system to gather information for China. Commons Defence Select Committee chairman Tobais Ellwood said the changing technology meant “we are far more vulnerable if things go wrong” and the UK should “wean” themselves of involvement with Huawei technology.
