I was a BMW dealer at the time this car was new. 530 was a 3-liter V-8 that was replaced by the 540 a year later. It is worth about $500-$1000 with a new set of tires and full tank...
They stopped making the e39 in 2003, so the owner must have set that target 17 years ago, or earlier. Good to get the 530 tho, since a 540 would have eaten up all his capital gains in maintenance costs.
