Land expropriation without compensation will be disastrous for SA economy: Pompeo via SABCNewsOnline

The US government is concerned about the possible negative effect of land expropriation without compensation on SA's economywould be disastrous for the South African economy are just the latest comments from the US government casting aspersions on the process. Addressing Ethiopian business leaders in Addis Ababa, Mike Pompeo criticised centralised planning in economies pointing to failures in Zimbabwe and Tanzania among others before turning his attention to South Africa.

It was a speech largely focused on the economic liberalisation of African countries – denouncing external influence from authoritarian governments while touting the rule of law, respect for property rights and regulations that encourage investment. “Centralised planning hasn’t worked, look at the failed socialist experiments of years past in Zimbabwe, in Tanzania, and right here in Ethiopia.

The State Department later confirmed its position that expropriation without compensation would send South Africa down the wrong path as explained then by former spokesperson Heather Nauert. A month later in New York, then International Relations Minister Lindiwe Sisulu met behind closed-doors with Pompeo where the matter was raised and seemingly resolved.

Let's Look at these in a passimist view an inlighten person sees a co-operation between these Look at what ZIMBABWE did after their independence the country went straight to poverty why? People wanted to take land and were not skilled enough to utilize that land

Threats from the super powers, Americans call it 'private land'. He ignores all the injustice thas has been done since 1657 and jumps right to 2018. The West & Europe have already messed up our economy, what's really new? Justice first and the rest will follow...

Is it not disastrous for minority to own the land?

Pompeo...keep your america will keep our beutiful SA please

What did we expect from pompeo...he's a white man protecting his fellow white brothers and sisters. Msunu wa pompeo.

Pompeo must name one country in the world that its economy is controlled by minority and doing well

He's talking nonsense our economy is on its knees as we speak because of lack of access to our land black people can't open business, enter into property development all because we don't have land. Our economy will flourish as soon as we amend section 25 of our constitution

That we remain landless and poor is not disastrous? Ukusithatha kancane -ke loku.

Pompeo must shut up and continue swimming in the pool of privilege.

Let's not go this route as country.

How if unused land is distributed

How so?

Was it not disastrous when it was taken from the rightful owners? Stop preaching propaganda that you think will derail expropriation without compensation..10% against 80%. Do your maths.

No shit Sherlock
