Laura Busse Dolan was well on her way building a successful career in branding, and she and her husband even had a rock ‘n’ roll band. Then one day, he revealed he had Parkinson’s, and asked her to take over the family's botanical art business. Boom! These are lessons from their story.

Laura Busse Dolan was well on her way building a successful career in branding, coming back now and then to help her dad in the cool botanical art business he had started decades before. She and her husband even had a rock ‘n’ roll band.

She started to notice her dad not being as sharp as he once was, but figured he was tired and, after all, he was getting older, but that was about it. Then one day, telling her that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and could no longer run the business reliably, much less do the intricate artistry he had been doing for decades building botanical architecture , he asked her to take over the business. But she knew she had to do it and dove in.

“I would drive your decisions in life with what fulfills you….When I wake up in the morning, do I feel most driven and excited to be doing the work I’m going to be doing that day?... I feel that more than anything I’ve done in my adult life in my career.” You can listen to my full interview with Laura Busse Dolan and here her explain how they make these beautiful buildings, on my podcast, Green Connections Radio,
