The Human Rights Commission is calling on Australia's biggest companies to start recording data on how long they retain workers with disabilities.

"We need the largest companies in Australia to see disability as the equivalent of other diversity characteristics," said Dr Gauntlett

"And within that, they need to collect data and ensure that it is measured to what extent they have good disability employment policies." Ms Lucock told the ABC it is not good enough to just stick someone with a disability in any old job and just leave them there."[I told my employer] I'm here to see the other sides of what I could be doing here to work here.

Forty per cent of the more than 3 million Australians living in poverty have a disability, according to the United Nations.
