The idea is this. We are in a critical situation. If you believe the advice it will get worse and apart from the risk to health there will be a significant risk to productivity and financial stability.
So to begin, we need a tax holiday. Part of the stimulus from government must be directly aimed at small businesses which will be struggling to survive. All states should lift or reduce payroll tax. The federal government must look at sensible and long lasting tax breaks, because this is a long-term problem.
Unions must put aside wage campaigns at least for now and forget industrial campaigns that hurt everybody. Big business must find some generosity of spirit. There were some signs of early price gouging. Airlines were charging cancellation fees when people were quarantined; petrol prices were illogically high.
No more of that. And it is absurd that there is talk of punishing employees who are not unwell but are isolated. As much as possible bosses must help those workers get through as well.
