Furloughed employees won't be paid their salaries during their time away from the company, but they will receive health care benefits.

Marriott International is poised to place tens of thousands of employees on furlough as the hotel giant reels from the coronavirus outbreak.

The travel industry is grappling with a tidal wave of cancellations as Americans heed public warnings to stay home to prevent the spread of COVID-19. "As travel restrictions and social distancing efforts around the world become more widespread, we are experiencing significant drops in demand at properties globally with an uncertain duration," Marriott said in a statement."We are adjusting global operations accordingly, which has meant either reduction in hours or a temporary leave for many of our associates at our properties.

Marriott, which had about 174,000 employees globally at the end of 2019, said the furloughs will affect all types of workers. They won't be paid their salaries during their time away from the company, but they will receive health care benefits. The company hopes to bring the workers back onto its payroll as soon as practicable when the pandemic subsides.

My mother always told me some things are better than nothing at all. It’s sad about the pay but benefits are a plus since trump won’t do anything about it. We wish you good luck people but please take this coranavirus serious. It is killing people all over the world. Good luck.

It’s not enough! Pay their employees!

Managers are not being allowed to take their PTO. What is going on?

Shame on them! Jumping the gun. LindseyGrahamSC thought you said hotels should pay their workers!?

So, Marriott is more worried about an increase in their unemployment insurance rates than their actual employees. Who would have thought....

Cheap pay your employees

Doesn’t this mean they cannot apply for unemployment benefits? Shouldn’t that be part of this story? coronavirus PeopleOverProfits

Wow smh

Can they file for unemployment

So they can all go live and eat at the hospital and not pay rent

sad..These companies can afford to pay them something..Govt shouldnt bail these companies out. Give the assistance to the employees but not the business itself..Wouldnt be so bad if the large companies took care of their own

I’m trying to make a positive impact on the world, please read my page and share if you have a minute, I swear it’s an interesting cause!!!

MGM is doing the same thing

Do landlords accept health care benefits in lieu of money?

Isn’t there a bailout proposal in the works for the leisure industry, including hotels? WTF?

Wow.

Something is better than nothing

Damn
