DENVER - The operators of a Colorado funeral home whose side business of selling body parts without consent was exposed by a Reuters investigative report in 2018 were charged on Tuesday with fraud and illegally transporting diseased cadavers.
According to the indictment, between 2010 and 2018, the defendants offered cremation services from their Montrose, Colorado funeral home for $1,000 or more with the promise of returning the remains to the dead persons’ families. Hess and Koch appeared before a federal magistrate judge in Grand Junction, Colorado on Tuesday. It was not immediately clear if they have retained legal counsel.
