Australian airports could be shut down indefinitely after Swissport said it would shed up to 80 per cent of its workforce if it could not secure a bailout offer.

The aviation services company - which is responsible for aircraft safety, baggage handling and security - says it will likely make 2,000 staff redundant in the next five to 10 days if it cannot

secure $125 million from the federal government. Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack and Transport Minister Paul Fletcher are actively considering bailout options. Image: News Corp Australia

Swissport is a Chinese owned company via (HNA Group) Swissport turn over is in excess of 3 Billion Euro per annum! Nice try 🙄 AusPol

Swissport is Chinese owned...no bailouts for China.

Good. Presumably that means their concession is cancelled. We can take it back, rehire the wukkaz and in 6 months have a very valuable business.

aren't all those Australian airports owned by private investors Another sellout of the Australian people so you pay a toll to drop people off and massive overpriced parking fees or train fees auspol nswpol vicpol

So Swissport is owned by Chinese company HNA group?

Nationalise the operation and give it back to Dept of Transport who ran it for decades.

If they need a handout put key in door walk away privatise profits and socialise losses

Is this a result of contracting out and not keeping jobs as part of the airline

Should arrest them for blackmailing

Nothing like a blackmail story on a Wednesday. I don't fly, shut the airports down everyone will back me up. 😅

This is what happens when the Liberals privatise the airports

Sounds like blackmail to me. Pay up or we we close. No gov helped struggling agriculture during 7yrs of drought so why help these mega companies through a minor short term hiccup.

Swiss cheese?

The state could take over the airport operation

Oh well. Let them and resume the land/buildings as a necessary essential service.

this sounds more like bargaining stance......sorry but workers get paid well in oz, what exactly do they want now? cant get blood out of a stone

Another foreign company wanting money from Aust 🖕

They suck. They treat their employees like crap. Ignore safety reports. Are unsafe. And the level of service is staggeringly poor.

Those pricks are useless anyway.
