A 'legendary' 1962 Ferrari GTE used by the Rome police in high-speed car chases is now for sale — take a closer look

The vehicle was often serviced in Maranello, Italy to ensure it stayed in the best condition possible. But in late-1968, the Ferrari 250 GTE Polizia was retired and ultimately auctioned off in 1972 to a man who preserved the vehicle for the next 40 years.Despite being sold and retired, the car still remained in the public eye. In 1984, Spatafora was able to drive the 250 GTE Polizia again at the Coppa delle Dolomiti race, finishing with the second-fastest time in the race.

Girardo & Co — which isn't making the asking price public — noted to Business Insider that the build "is one of, if not the, most valuable Ferrari 250 GTE."A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series II and 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series III both auctioned off for over $500,000 in 2017 and 2018, respectively, with RM Sotheby's.
