WASHINGTON—Senate Republicans’ efforts to shield companies from liability during the coronavirus pandemic sets the stage for a showdown with Democrats, as allies of businesses and labor fight over the terms under which the economy will emerge from its partial shutdown.
Senate lawmakers return to Washington this week to start working out the next round of relief for households and businesses, on top of almost $3 trillion approved so far. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who will control the shape of much of the next...
Representation of companies sure does not match the 'for the people' representation models I learned as a political science major. At least they are showing voters their true colors before November2020.
Billions have already been approved and distributed to States.
Absolutely NO need for this “liability protection”. You must not - and cannot - strip ANYONE from their protection against willful negligence. No Corp entity or person - NOT EVEN POTUS - has that protection - even WITH a Pres Pardon.
without liability, there will be no incentive to source PPE and protect workers. I am speaking from experience, as a physician running a mid sized practice. I have spent the past month sourcing PPE for our employees.
WHY THE FUCH NOT SenateGOP HouseGOP HAS BEEN KILLING THE LITTLES FOR YEARS. WHY STOP NOW.
Potentially as murderous as opposition to the Medicaid expansion. GOP holding schools, hospitals and first responders hostage to policy that enables coercive and life threatening employer practices. Cannot imagine how decent people can belong to the GOP. .EliseStefanik
The GOP is a death cult.
yes!!! It is outrageous that the peasantry working in meat packing plants are refusing to return to work!!!! With a liability waiver & federal enforcement, we will be able to herd the workers back in.....we can NOT let this movement by peasants grow, right ?
Monopolies and Trump want to rush everyone back to work, prematurely, “safely” Then, they turn around and say, if you get infected with COVID19 and end up in the hospital or die, it’s on you
CyrusToulabi Republicans are to toxic to your health. Good luck MoscowMitch getting us back into stores and restaurants. senatemajldr
Tell the truth. The liability is for the Owners of the corporations being exempt from employees lawsuits, when the worked is forced back to work gets sick or dies. The worker is not allowed to sue the Co or the owners, this bill eliminates all workers rights, typically GOP
They should fix the economic nexus nightmare for small businesses while they’re at it.
Want to agree with Republicans on this one, but just can't trust to many in the GOP.
As someone more knowledgeable than me already said, Republicans are essentially admitting there's a risk for Americans who go back to work with COVID19 still killing their neighbors.
Everyone back to work! But wait you can’t hold us to that!
If we had the tort reform we tried to get 20 years ago, this wouldn't be an issue.
Protections for companies is sorely needed in order to get our economy up and running
The republican controlled senate wants to allow companies to put lives at risk with impunity, and will withold aid to those who need it to enforce it’s demands for death immunity.
Protect the business first before the worker is a mentality that I will never understand. Yes, companies need protection as well, but it is the employee who keeps the company running in the first place.
There should not be one more dollar paid to anyone until there is a concrete day to open up. The fucking liberals will keep going to the well and ruin this economy. They have all of their minions brainwashed into the we are all going to die mentality so the answer is Government
Corps before citizens how charitable of them...
china is danger for the wold .. Fuck China.. world wants that ChineseBioterrorism ChinaLiedPeopleDie ChinaVirus China_is_terrorist
Democrats have taken far too much cash from too many Trial Lawyers to tolerate this
Red state bail out of blue states?
Liability protection? Since there were no charges of fraud following the 2008 market collapse, I'd say Wall St. already has enough liability protection!
How abou protection if the workers, first?
We wouldn't want those Manhattan tort lawyers to miss their chance to profit from the virus, would we Nancy and Chuck!
Right. Fuck the people, make sure they're at work whether or not it's safe. And while we're at it, fuck the states paying the people to keep us safe, because economy. I'm sure this will end well
This should be part of the company’s overhead. Sorry, big business should be more financially savvy
Finally someone is thinking of the massive bloodsucking corporations
The only constituency that the gop actually serves, corporations and billionaires.
So force non-essential workers to go back to work and risk getting sick kicking them off unemployment, with the employers having no legal responsibility to keep them safe? Sounds a bit like communism.
Need to consider a 9/11 type compensation plan with damages based on the Death on the High Seas Act (DOHSA) limited to pecuniary loss
And then there is this:
Fiscally irresponsible states should not be bailed out by responsible states.
they will. just you wait and see. they already caved so many times lol
TrumpIsToxic stay away from him.
