Reuters is reporting China will levy punitive anti-dumping tariffs on Australian barley from tomorrow, threatening the viability of the sector

. According to reports, Beijing will hit Australian barley coming into China with an anti-dumping duty rate of 73.6% and anti-subsidy duty rate of 6.9%. This equates to an almost 80 per cent impost on Australian barley farmers. The Morrison government has rejected claims Australian grain growers dumped barley into the Chinese market en masse - thereby undermining local producers.

China is Australia’s largest barley market, with exports worth $1.5 billion in 2018, although that figure more than halved in 2019 due to the drought. Trade Minister Simon Birmingham on Sunday confirmed there has been a contact freeze between the Australian government and Chinese trade officials.

We should stay away form usa cuz it’ll never end well and stoping trade with china search for another markets...china is süper power dont forget they have manufactoring power we should have good politicians and especially not neo liberal thats the fact

Make more beer!

And we do nothing, pathetic !

来而不往非礼也。

Oh yes and our American Allies have now offered their barley. How wonderful

Australia can put tariffs on natural gas instead of giving it to China for 3or4¢ a liter

Wow big bully, let the probe into covid happen and while they are there have a look at the concetration camp of this Hitler state. China should be on a trade embargo from the world or pay everyone compensation starting with me

Can’t change it, take a hit(unfortunately) and grow a different crop next season...

Very pleased

The UK are leaving the EU and imports 157kt in 2015/16, almost entirely (99%) from EU sources. Let’s get a trade deal done, we’ll have your wine as well. Together we’ll defeat this bully, just like we’ve done in the past.

So what!. Get out and sell to other countries.!

Australia farmers diversify our exports to other parts of the world.Put tariff 80% on baby formula going to China

They have nearly 1.5 billion people to feed. Stop trading with them, it'll hurt them as much as it'll hurt us economically for the short term.

They certainly don't deserve Australian Barley, beef, coal, iron ore or anything else from Australia & while you're at it, go make your own fucking baby formula & leave ours alone.

Oh. Gee. We should be thankful for everything China does for Australia. Not. Australians won’t bow to China’s threats, playing victim or bully tactics. They’ll be in for a rude shock. We’re called Aussie Battlers for a reason. China prepare to find out!

How much the Aussie know about China? Besides trade war, there is psychological war, media war, legal warfare...many tactics CCP use to destroy the democratic countries. Aussie need to be very careful.....very good summaries from Joshua Philipp

Good news to Australia.

China needs our products more than we need to sell them to them. The massive rich middle class demand Australian products, from baby formula, prime beef, top seafood to mangoes etc. Australia is the ONLY country that can provide the quantity & quality of products they demand!

Dicks! This is when we need to tool our sleeves up, grow some balls and start placing tariffs on the crap that they sell out there on the markets. China needs us more now than ever

The rescind the lease on the Port of Darwin & take recompense

Tit for tat. Ban exports of Chinese owned businesses & ban Chinese ownership of housing to start with.

This is so bad for our rural bros & sisters. There’s no dumping from us & if you want to talk abt subsidies, China, as a country, is one of the highest subsidising of its farmers. So talk abt pot & kettle. Anyway, our farmers may have to change the crops that they sow this year

The real dumping is of their aluminium

Well that's what you get for ⬇️

Excellent news, I wonder who will be getting this contract? Seems like the US beef market were making previsions to free up export restrictions to China, back in March... They must have known a gap was opening in the Chinese market? What a coincidence?

Well done ScottyFromMarketting

5 years of Tariffs - time to urgently diversify our exports. Looks like total economic coercion. Important that we stay ‘true to our values’ and pursue of the truth for the sake of future pandemic learning. auspol

Is the barley tariff a retaliation to an investigation into coronavirus or is it Australia’s use of anti-dumping against China?

With friends like these...

Serves us right for being lazy, not diversifying our debtor base.

Make some beer with it. Stop sending it over now

Stay away from CCP , it is never wrong.

5 years of imposed Tariffs. Total economic coercion. Time to urgently diversify our export markets. Stay true to our values, no matter what. auspoI
