The Small Business Administration is asking local Planned Parenthood affiliates to return millions of dollars in loans received through the Paycheck Protection Program.

, small businesses and nonprofits with fewer than 500 employees can apply for forgivable loans. Planned Parenthood officials say local member organizations that fall within those limitations — not the larger, national group — applied for and received the funds.

The Small Business Administration asks affiliates to either return the funds or respond with documentation demonstrating eligibility for the program. The letters end with a warning that"if SBA determines that a borrower made a knowingly false certification" on a loan application, the agency"may refer the borrower for appropriate civil or criminal penalties."to Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, an SBA official notes that the organization in Washington, D.C.

Stephanie Fraim, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida, told NPR that her organization received a little over $2 million, mostly to cover employee paychecks. "The economic uncertainty at that moment was profound, and the two weeks while we waited for this loan, we spent having some very tough conversations about what we would do if we didn't get this loan," Fraim said.

Jacqueline Ayers, vice president of government relations and public policy at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said the move by SBA is part of a politically motivated"relentless attack" by the Trump administration, which

How about churches that are tax exempt return theirs as well. Propping up religious institutions seems like a direct conflict with the whole 'separation of church and state' thing.

The issue is, which was not clearly stated in the article, they applied for a loan that they were not qualified for. They had more then 500 employees. By the time the program rolled out, those were the rules.

And if they don't what? They will find a way to not return the money. We'll see how responsible government is in getting ill-gotten taxpayer money is!

Just another Trump action of defunding our healthcare workers. Not ALL planned parenthood's provide abortion. They provide women's gynecological healthcare, education, birth control, STI testing, etc. Pence did this in Indiana PPFA and this 👇 happened. And they blame China.

How dare they keep that money!!!!!

daviddaleiden asking?

trump is sooo dang me, me, me and what he wants . My dislike for trump is GREAT ...

NO!

I think we have bigger issues to worry about.

Nope, not happening. The PPP loans were made to individual clinics that have (far) fewer than 500 employees, not to the national organization.

Good

If an RN is willing to come back to work succeeding the jeopardy and losses of COVID-19, they should have the Paycheck Protection Program now in order to pay their rent and eat. Rent forgiveness, on the other hand, is an huge issue at too large a scale to mandate efficiently.

I suppose this means a barber registered as a democrat is next. Then maybe a gun control advocate, a newspaper columnist or... the list could go on. If we're going to cherry-pick, what kind of recovery are we hoping for?

They should return the money in loose pennies

Screw them

Um okay...

DON'T.

I love how conservatives attack abortion, when a Republican-run Supreme Court made abortions legal in the first place. An all-male, Republican-run Supreme Court. Nobody really gave a damn whether it happened or not until it was legal.

Please keep it.

The Trump Regime knows that this won't survive a court challenge. That's not the point. The point is to gin up their rabid, woman-hating base.

Whaaat!?!

Trump using our tax dollars 💵 like it’s his own personal piggy 🐷 bank. He figures our hard earned tax dollars 💵💰should be used to pay off pornstars and his personal interests. Trump and his administration working on his next con. 🤡

But major corporations that fell under the criteria get to keep the money?

Y. No.

Is the NRA eligible?

This administration is a fucking joke 🤣

No!

I am pro-choice, always will be. However, PPFA had NO business taking money intended for small businesses. There’s zero excuse to why they’d even think those funds were intended for them.

I'm so glad they have time for that. While ignoring my EIDL application from April 1st. 'Cash Advance within 3 days' they said. It's been 51 days. Told me a month ago it was processing. I got one email where they essentially bitched at me for believing the shit they said.

Good now maybe PPFA can hire a few Parenting Counselors rather than just Grief Counselors! AnnCoulter

I'm not sure as to how they can enforce this.

Take it to court. And drag it out until the new president is in office.

Don’t give it back. They deserve it, his wealthy donors don’t

So a church can get the money and a restaurant chain can get the money, but not an individual PP location? 🤔 PPFA

Wealthy people need the money

If Strip Clubs entitled to receive Federal Coronavirus Relief money so Planned Parenthood affiliates must be too.

Can all the churches who got loans give the money back as well?

How about they ask the Oil and Airline industries to return or redistribute? Or better yet realDonaldTrump and stevenmnuchin1 , this administration hate small business.

Did they send forceful letters to all the wealthy Trump donors who 'mistakenly' received big checks from the SBA? How about all the giant corporations who also did?

Just when you thought this administration hasn’t embarrassed America enough

PP is not allowed to receive federal funds, based on the Hyde Amendment.

They get enough of our money already. Disgusting

No. Once you sign the check, you have carry the donation to term

lol...no

That's bullshit.
