Have you been missing something amid the lockdowns and stay-at-home orders? No, not human contact. Not even toilet paper.Industry experts say robocalls are way down — scam calls as well as nagging from your credit-card company to pay your bill. The coronavirus pandemic has inflicted millions of job losses, and scammers have not been immune.

YouMail, which offers a robocall-blocking service, says 2.9 billion robocalls were placed in April in the U.S., down from 4.1 billion in March and 4.8 billion in February. That’s a daily average of 97 million calls in April, down from 132 million in March and 166 million in April. The main reason: many global call centers have closed or are operating with fewer workers, said YouMail CEO Alex Quilici. While it may be odd to think of scams being run out of call centers rather than a dark, creepy basement or a garage, that’s often the case, particularly in countries such as India and the Philippines, experts said.

The scammers have not stopped their persistent pursuit to economically distance me from my money!

News24680 I'm still receiving them. Guess I'm just lucky. :-D

Funny thing is I just started getting them again TODAY 🤬

Thankfully, I have actually experienced this decrease. Hoping like hell the robo company & staff stay permanently closed.

Sounds like a silver lining

I get some from an unnamed credit card company telling me it’s my last chance to pay my bill for the last 6 months 🤨 I owe nothing. As for calling my cell, if you’re not in my contacts, I let you ring & then block you my iPhone and then on AT&T Call Protect. Bye!

Yes my phone has been extremely quiet these days.

I just remarked how few spam calls we are getting.

I got 3 calls today, but this is the first time in weeks.

And they would like to talk to all of you about your cars warranty!!

NO. IT HAS NOT. FIRE THOSE 'experts'

I've been saying this for weeks. The volume in both robo-calls and email spam has dropped considerably.

Wtf I love pandemics now

Buried lead: ‘Stepped-up enforcement from industry groups and the U.S. government’!! Small carriers? Is Verizon considered a small carrier?

Byeeeee

Hmmm. I figured those jobs could be done as WFH. Maybe bosses would rather lay-off than wonder if employees are slacking off?

That's one of the upsides.

That is crazy! There are more Robo calls than ever!

Nah. Its bc smartphones now have a built in report this number function. AP, wrong again.

Yeah, the calls have stopped but I've seen consecutive days of texts from scammers claiming they have videos of me 'pulling the goalie' and they'll send video to my friends if I don't send BTC. Both had my name and believed they had a current password to one of my accounts.

I've been getting multiple calls per day from political organizations. The pandemic is cancelled out by this being an election year.

Thoughts and prayers!

Either that or they switched over to making memes and fake news stories.

Well that’s a lie I’m on the so called no call list. At least 1cal a day for car warranties. All from different phone numbers. In and out of the state. Same with hard line. Ridiculous!!

Not at my house.

you sure about that? mine haven't stopped.

A robocalls are as useful as democrat leaders

I’ve got news for those “industry experts”: the decline was short-lived & calls are back up to pre-pandemic levels this week.

Noticed this in March...the ONLY silver lining for this pandemic

I used to get at least 1 Scam Likely call a day , now nothing ! One good thing about all this horror 😮

I knew something positive would come out of this pandemic!

Finally, some good news. These people have banned me from answering any unknown number.

Hmm... That's weird. I actually think I've gotten a lot more robo calls lately.

I’ve been getting more than ever

I noticed a lack of robo calls. Took a pandemic to stop that s***

You know its bad when the Nigerian prince stops sending you emails.😂😂😂

So there's a bright side to all this afterall.

So scamming is a real profession I suppose, no degree needed!
