WASHINGTON — Senate investigators said Tuesday that government officials had “exercised minimal oversight” of the risks posed by three Chinese telecom companies that operate on US communications netwo

rks.

The findings could put pressure on officials at those agencies and embolden politicians from both parties who argue that the United States must move quickly to sever any links between its communications networks and Chinese companies. But other Chinese companies with ties to the country’s government are still licensed to operate on US networks, and the Senate report said the Team Telecom agencies had failed to keep an adequate watch on three of them: China Unicom Americas, China Telecom Americas and ComNet . All three are part of Chinese state-controlled companies.

China Telecom said in a statement that it had fully complied with its agreement with the government and cooperated voluntarily with the Senate’s investigation. The other two Chinese companies did not comment on the findings.
