Uber had been in talks with Grubhub on an acquisition for about a year and a half but saw the deal slip away from the company in the last few days, sources say.

Uber is frustrated with Grubhub's stall tactics and leaks about regulatory concerns, according to people familiar with the matter.Uber's offer valued Grubhub at a higher share price than Just Eat Takeaway.

Uber plans to put out a statement after Grubhub announces its deal with Just Eat Takeaway, a European food delivery service that entered the sale process relatively late. The deal closed Wednesday, said the people, who asked not to be named because the negotiations are private.

Uber doesn’t need this anyway. Marketshare is growing and profit is on the horizon. Grub will look back at this as a missed opportunity.
