The Trump administration plans to reinterpret a Cold War-era arms agreement between 34 nations with the goal of allowing U.S. defense contractors to sell American-made drones to more nations

The policy change, which has not been previously reported, could open up sales of armed U.S. drones to less stable governments such as Jordan and the United Arab Emirates that in the past have been forbidden from buying them under the 33-year-old Missile Technology Control Regime , said the U.S. official, a former U.S. official and one of the executives. It could also undermine longstanding MTCR compliance from countries such as Russia, said the U.S.

She said the drones would help allies fight terrorism, establish border control and generally help stop threats before they reach the United States. Grant declined to name specific nations the Pentagon believes should get more U.S.-made weapons. The Trump administration is pressing ahead with its revamp of drone export policy under pressure from American manufacturers and despite objections from human rights advocates, who warn of the risk of fueling instability in hot spots including the Middle East and South Asia.

Reuters could not determine what specific criteria the State Department will use in scrutinizing weapons deals under the new interpretation. U.S. drone manufacturers, face growing competition overseas especially from Chinese and Israeli rivals who have far fewer rules limiting sales. The defense contractors are vying for a larger share of the global military drone market, which the Teal Group, a market research firm, forecast annual sales, research and development will rise from $15.8 billion in 2020 to nearly $20 billion by 2029.

Why not!? With modern technology and the internet we already spy on one another. The watcher of the watcher is watched.

I even suspect that for the sake of benefit, the United States will inadvertently let weapons flow to terrorist organizations, and then buy more weapons to deal with. Capital driven.

A weapon that kills more innocent people than actual enemy combatants It’s a tool of destruction & terror in parts of Africa & the Middle East.

keep your drones. you're a bunch of war criminals.

Trump wants to go back in time of the cold war. Him and Putin want this time period to repeat itself. Sickening.

Oh good timing since he just fired the only person actually looking for corruption in international arms deals.

Sweet!

'reinterpret'

I wonder how many Republicans own some stock in those companies.

Weapon dealers are sucking the blood of human being

My prediction: 'Oh, what a mistake that will be'...

Just great. Eventually we will be defending ourselves against our own weapons. This is insane. Never mind I know the answer to that.

Is this administration so desperate for cash that it is ready to sell US military technology to foreign powers that could then - hypothetically - deploy it against the US?

Well you forget to mention biggest market of all India . We will need them in bulk !!

One day, we will be attacked by our own drones.

.. and u want Russia & China to sign on to banning arms sales to Iran? Good Luck!

Ahh American military technology into more foreign hands? Nice, nothing like selling your military capability and defence capability to the highest bidder

I wonder how long before one of those weapons are used against our own troops?

Good!
