The corporate push to recognize Juneteenth comes as protests over the killing of George Floyd have thrust issues of long-standing systemic racism in the U.S. back into the spotlight.

An entrance to a Best Buy store is seen on July, 7, 2018.Best Buy announced on its website on Tuesday that it is designating Juneteenth this year as a"paid volunteer day" for employees to participate in"peaceful protests, rallies and community service."Nike announced in a statement on its official LinkedIn that it will be closing all"retail stores, offices and distribution facilities in the US" in observance of Juneteenth.

Target stores will remain open on Friday, but hourly associates who work will be paid time and a half and all"eligible Target team members" have the option to take the day off with pay.NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a memo to staff that the football league will observe the holiday and its offices will be closed that day.

He called the holiday"a day to reflect on our past, but more importantly, consider how each one of us can continue to show up and band together to work toward a better future." "I am proud of the decision our organization has made to recognize Juneteenth as a company holiday this year and going forward," Camye Mackey, the chief people, diversity and inclusion officer for the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena said in a statement."This is one of many steps we’ll take to support the positive change we need to see in society.

Racism is not systemic. It is how one is raised, taught early on and who then decides to enact upon it without having the proper guidance. To claim that it is systemic, means we all partake in it. So I assume that those who are calling out this systemic racism are also racist.

'Systemic racism' is the excuse for 'free stuff'! Men dying on the Union side during the Civil War were 'systemic racists'? Blacks cry for blacks killed by police, but never mention the large number killed by other blacks! Why not?

Who is giving privileges. Same race to same people. Keep on systemic fighting against people of no color. We all pay equal monetary payments towards running of the country. We all support the state. If segeregation do not stop then destruction of the state

FYI did you even know that the District of Columbia celebrates the Emancipation Proclamation on the 16th of April one day after tax day

There is no systemic racism in our country, peddle your BS somewhere else....the majority is not buying it...

So glad to see oppressed celebrities like Nick Cannon out there leading the charge! You know, he's had a pretty rough go of things as a black man in American society.

The only legit systematic institutional racism is against whites.
