Sure seemed cool then. Still does! Is it too different to be accepted? E-scooters and ebikes of all kinds are cool, but the Segway out-performs them in most performance measures, right!? Kinda sad. Have they played a role in Malaria reduction in Africa as originally gesigned for?
Segway's were too big and too expensive. They were replaced by hoverboards and electronic scooters that both cost far less. Hoverboards were self-balancing fun for kids and e-scooters deliver urban mobility without the clunkiness of a car. Same ultimate function; different form.
Right idea, wrong form factor. “Battery powered thing with wheels for individual people mobility” is doing just fine as a product category.
You can’t carry groceries on it. Segways are most practical cities, where do you put it While you are in the office, restaurant or gym?
Maybe the ultra rich have no clue what average people want and need?
