The parent company of Chuck E. Cheese has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

CEC said franchised locations are not part of the bankruptcy.

It was not immediately clear whether CEC plans to close any locations permanently in bankruptcy. The company said it's attempting to negotiate lower rent payments, a process that leaves open the possibility of permanent closures.
