The Trump administration’s refusal to mandate masks, social distancing or temperature checks for air travel has led to a patchwork of industry efforts and mixed messages, the latest of which was on display Tuesday as a CDC official upbraided one U.S. airline for moving toward packed planes again.
Beyond the CDC's inaction, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said in an interview with POLITICO earlier this month that Covid-19 protections are more of a “labor management” issue and that she is looking to avoid “heavy-handed” federal government involvement. The question of masks on planes also remains a confusing issue for airlines and passengers to navigate. All of the major airlines now require customers to wear masks — and have recently pledged punishments after several weeks of iffy enforcement.
“At any rate, I don’t think that American ever said that they wouldn’t sell middle seats,” Nick Calio said, adding that some airlines “are making choices to sell them now, and when flights are full, they are also telling people that the flights are full so they’re aware, and they’re allowing them to rebook immediately if they don’t want to fly on that flight.”
However, in early May, A4A said it would “encourage” TSA and airports to require face coverings for passengers.

The WHOLE COUNTRY is a mixed message. It starts with Trump NOT Leading , not wearing a Mask, Not being Prepared in a Pandemic, Cutting the Funding for the CDC, Etc,Etc, Etc, Etc, etc......
Gee, it’s not as though a free for all will result in chaos causing an outbreak. Let’s just abolish all rules and regs ,use your own judgement - which assumes you have any. I always hated the idea of my dog having to get rabies shots, s/b my judgement, right?
What else can King Trump mandate? Freedom of speech on social media? Kneeling at sporting events not allowed?
