The intense interest in primary care comes as the coronavirus pandemic creates massive challenges for every part of the healthcare industry. Healthcare workers are facing, even as hospitals were overwhelmed by patients with COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
All have moved significantly online, with the expectation — especially for those caring for elderly Americans — that that will be the majority of visits going forward. Some have found ways to care for patients infected with the novel coronavirus at home, while many are finding ways to safely test for the virus in clinics.
To do that, doctors in ChenMed's practices each typically care for a group of about 300 to 400 patients a year. Cynthia Roberson, a 71-year-old who lives in Plantation, Florida, attributes her ability to weather COVID-19 from home to ChenMed.
Anyone who thinks these companies aren't putting profits before patients is kidding themselves.
