Pub owner predicts 'car crashes' for industry after bars 'took a hit for the country'

A third generation pub owner worries that there won’t be a business to hand down to his sons, as the industry continues to reel from the newsDue to the recent spike in Covid-19 cases, the Government ruled on Wednesday night that pubs which do not serve food cannot open until at least August 10.

Ronan Lynch, owner of The Swan on Dublin’s Aungier Street and chairman of the Licensed Vintners Association, told the Irish Daily Mirror thatThe third-generation pub owner warned that there are “going to be a lot of car crashes” in the industry as pubs are forced to close down. “The publicans are just pulling their hair out. We need guidelines to get our pubs back open and get our pubs prepared.

He told the Irish Daily Mirror: “It’s crazy that publicans are the ones who closed first, that took the hit first.
