The layoffs began on May 8, the notice said. Employers with 100 or more workers are generally required to notify workers at least 60 days before the layoffs go into effect. on July 1 that it was laying off an undisclosed number of employees, while cutting executive pay, in order to grapple with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
"Every eligible employee will receive a separation package that includes severance, benefits assistance and outplacement support. These types of decisions are never easy, because we realize the impact it has on our people. We're committed to taking care of them as best we can during this transition."
A representative for the company did not immediately return Business Insider's request for further comment on the Washington WARN notice on Monday. on May 28, the department store alluded to layoffs but did not specify how many positions would be affected.that it would be closing 19 stores, including 16 of its full-line department stores and all three of its Jeffrey boutiques.
