Top GOP Lawmaker Says No Stimulus Bill Until August

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Tuesday that he doesn’t expect the next coronavirus relief bill to pass before the end of the month, when several key provisions of the $2.2 trillion CARES Act will expire. Lawmakers returned to Washington Monday with just three weeks to pass the next round of rescue legislation before they leave again for an August recess.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is expected to unveil the GOP’s proposed bill this week—that draft will likely include several key , including liability protections for businesses that reopen and a reduction of the enhanced federal unemployment benefits that will expire at the end of July.

I see let’s give liability protections for businesses that reopen even though we have no national strategy for reopening in a safe manner. Employers must have required guidelines with specific safeguard measures to protect their employees before protecting the business.
