Virgin Australia CEO Paul Scurrah says the airline needs an extension of the JobKeeper wage subsidy due to the volatility of the industry and the uncertainty around borders.

“The prediction that this will go for a little longer will mean that we will need continued government support for the whole sector,” Mr Scurrah told Sky News. “We will continue to lobby for that, and I think it’s necessary.

” The airline yesterday axed 3,000 jobs and discontinued the Tigerair brand, after the company released its plan for the new and improved version of the airline. Mr Scurrah also could not definitively say whether more jobs would be lost. “No CEO of any airline in the world right now can guarantee anything like that,” he said. “We are still in the middle of a pandemic and the industry is going through the biggest crisis it has ever seen before. “No one can give a guarantee like that.

or perhaps they could pay using cancellation fees for flights from Canberra to Qld due to border closure. I‘m furious as they wanted to charge me and my wife $70.00 each to cancel our flights.

How about PDScurrah approaches richardbranson to sign a blank cheque along with the 2000 odd 'signed photographs' that staff retrenched by VirginAustralia will receive. NO Bailout for this Company. Keep up the great work ausgov and ScottMorrisonMP 👌🏻

He's red hot.. Can taxpayers have a signed photo too?

if the government want to fund this airline with my tax paid money, I need them to get shares in the company in exchange which they can sell later to make back for money. when hard-working people don't get anything for free why should companies get it?

So much for Palachuk and her promises. She wanted Virgin headquarters to stay in Brisbane to support jobs! Out the window - don't care - you're on your own. Elections looming 20 Oct.

If they Won’t fly regional routes, then they should be depending on their new owners...who have Very Deep Pockets. At least to subsidise Jobkeeper.

Just Bail everyone out ScottMorrisonMP

Of course they do after firing 3000 odd staff and prob collecting $$ from the Qld Gov..
