The Trump administration unveiled a wild plan to wall off China from the US internet

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday announced a newThis comes the same week as President Trump ordered that hugely successful social media app TikTok — which is owned by Chinese tech company ByteDance — sell off its US business to an American company"The Clean Network program is the Trump Administration's comprehensive approach to guarding our citizens' privacy and our companies' most sensitive information from aggressive intrusions by malign actors, such as the Chinese...

Pompeo outlined five ways in which the initiative aims to keep China away from America's internet, although he was not entirely clear about how they might be technically enforced.Pompeo said this part of the initiative is: "to ensure untrusted People's Republic of China carriers are not connected with US telecommunications networks. Such companies pose a danger to US national security and should not provide international telecommunications services to and from the United States.

This explanation for this runs: "PRC apps threaten our privacy, proliferate viruses, and spread propaganda and disinformation. American's [sic] most sensitive personal and business information must be protected on their mobile phones from exploitation and theft for the CCP's benefit."3.

Pompeo specifically names Chinese tech giant Huawei as an example, calling it "an arm of the PRC surveillance state." The US government has long accused Huawei of acting as a proxy for the Chinese government to spy, which Huawei denies.

SAI Irony is that is the reason why China doesn't permit full internet access to stop US views impacting the Chinese. Trump seems to like walls although not sure how the Mexican wall is going.

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products will produce AstraZeneca Plc's potential COVID-19 vaccine in mainland China, the British drugmaker said on Thursday, its first deal to supply one of the world's most populous countries. ~ no steal/price gouging?

US did similar to Japan and French…… should US be proud of it?

While Pompeo is trying to do all this do you think he could add Trump and his minions to being banned from the internet and social media as well? If given a choice on who to ban between Trump and China, I pick Trump, He causes a lot more damage than China.

How do you feel about China walling off the world from their internet? Is that wild too?

well, it is a series of tubes, after all

Where have we heard about the wall talk before

SAI What’s with the f****ng walls

ZhugeEX That's a James Bond level of villiany right here.

The trading partner countries must have a very fast Internet connection; to monitor goods transit.

GOOD. CHIMA ENSLAVES UIGHURS

Each continent should have its own Internet system. & only selective connection with other continents.

Very good idea please do the same with the GCC and the Arab peninsula. We'd be able to live in peace thereafter. thehill

Too bad retarded American public officials can't ask China for much needed hardware/software assistance as they're too busy scapegoating them instead. There's NO good reason for this obfuscating trade/tech war, and American citizens are no less complicit for their silence.

No he doesn’t, because once in the hands of Microsoft, China would no longer (assuming it does, at all) have access to user data. Not that he has the ability to “ban” it anyway — it would still live on phones even if removed from US App Store. So, who is Luca Brazzi in the administration? It's called 'tax revenue.'
