SUBANG JAYA: Proton announced that it has begun exporting cars to Kenya, its latest foreign market. They would be assembled by Simba Corporation , a diversified conglomerate with a track record of sales and assembly experience in the automotive industry.
The cars were exported as CKD kits to benefit from lower taxes imposed by Kenya. Proton said the CKD units would also help spur development in Kenya’s automotive manufacturing industry. The guest of honour for the ceremonial flag-off ceremony on Friday was Kenyan High Commissioner to Malaysia Francis N. Muhoro."Proton's entry into Kenya is not just as an entry into a market of 51 million people but it is also a gateway to a potential market of 1.3 billion inhabiting the African continent. Therefore, I am hopeful this will be just the start of more trade between our two nations,” said Muhoro.
