Finance Minister Mathias Cormann says it was just “plain disgraceful” that a young girl was not able to attend her father’s funeral on Thursday in Queensland due to border restrictions. Queensland resident Sarah Caisip, who currently lives in Canberra, recently flew home to Queensland in a bid to visit her dying father. She was placed in hotel quarantine, despite the ACT not recording community transmission of COVID-19 for more than two months.

On Thursday Ms Caisip was refused an exemption from quarantine to attend her father's funeral. “What’s happened here is heartbreaking, that girl and family will never be able to get that moment back,” Mr Cormann told Sky News. “People have got to be careful not to lose their humanity here. “In terms of risk versus what should have happened here, it is completely and utterly disproportionate. “I just can’t get my head around that somebody could be so cold hearted, harsh and nasty.
