Business leaders urged Mayor Bill de Blasio to restore essential services cut from the budget and warned about New York City's deteriorating condition

More than 160 business leaders, including executives at Citigroup Inc., Mastercard Inc. and Nasdaq Inc., have signed a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio warning of New York City’s deteriorating condition in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and growing anxiety over public safety, cleanliness and other quality-of-life issues.

In a letter sent Thursday, the leaders said the pandemic has devastated the city’s economy, causing high levels of unemployment. They urged the Democratic mayor to restore essential services that have been cut from the budget that he and the New York City Council recently approved. The budget reduced or eliminated services like garbage pickups and graffiti removal, as well as shifted nearly $1 billion in funding away from the New York Police Department. The city still faces a $9 billion deficit over the next two years and

God forbid New Yorkers get our city back. Big Biz doesn’t give a rats about the condition of NYC. The only thing troubling them is that the exclusivity-based, housing-crisis-causing real estate bubble has burst, & their cushy regulatory & tax breaks might be in danger. Boo hoo.

Nobody in the country should have to pay for NYC’s fiscal mess. It was mismanaged before the crisis.

I thought conservatives loved budget cuts? Maybe those business leaders should tell Republicans in Congress to approve federal aid to states and municipalities.

I feel so bad for all the people in the rest of New York State that have to pay taxes, that are going to be out of control, to pay for the cesspool that is NYC.

As a taxpayer in another state not my responsibility to pay for the terrible management of NYC. That burden belongs to the folks who choose to live there and elect the governor and mayors.

Did they demand that their taxes be raised? Are they demanding massive federal aid?
