ARM: Can 'crown jewel' of UK tech be protected?

It is not too late for the government to impose conditions, but conversations on whether to impose them or what they might be have not even started. He also said the company intended to preserve ARM's UK HQ and invest millions in creating a state-of-the-art supercomputer centre in Cambridge.Nvidia's boss described ARM as"one of the greatest technology companies of all time". It is precisely the kind of company that this government wants freedom from EU state aid rules to be able to support through long-term investment.

Surely in the age of cyber warfare, high end computing is the new cavalry and there could be grounds to block this deal?

Arseholes. Letting it be sold off to the Japanese in the first place was the point of intervention.

What about all the other gems that have been stolen over the years? Where was government then?

Why are we so in thrall to the US? They have a history of stealing great ideas and businesses. The government should do more than look at its options to protect their investment. They should block the takeover.

The Internal Market Bill shows the world the UK is strong and will not be bullied by Leavers, Ex Prime Ministers or the EU. Sign the Bill into law!

Otherwise it could cost them an ARM and a leg. Ba-dom-tis!

The government are a bit bloody late to be thinking of this. They let ARM Holdings be bought by Japan's Softbank group in 2016. The sale to Nvidia is at about double the value Softbank paid. DOUBLING IN FOUR YEARS!

The UK was too lax to let ARM be bought by Softbank in the first place. This was the jewel of British tech, how could we sell out? It makes no sense. Irresponsible.

Conservatives you didn’t protect Worldpay, you didn’t protect Costa Coffee and now you’re harping on to protect ARM that is already way down the river to the US. Too little too late.

I thought Japans Softbank owned it?!

Hope so, barely have any big UK firms left after the USA has morphed them into their own.
