A White House-approved plan to transform TikTok into a U.S.-based company would keep the operation of the app—and likely the algorithm that has powered its rise—in Chinese hands

to a deal that would see TikTok partner with Oracle Corp. and Walmart Inc. to form a new entity called TikTok Global that would provide services to TikTok’s current users in the U.S. and most of the world outside China.

Under the terms of the deal, TikTok’s parent, Beijing-based ByteDance Ltd., would retain roughly 80% ownership of the new company, with Oracle and Walmart holding the rest, people familiar with the situation told The Wall Street Journal earlier. Because ByteDance is roughly 40% owned by U.S. investors, the new company, with the Oracle and Walmart stakes, could be described as having majority American ownership, they said.

At the same time, ByteDance’s 80% stake in TikTok would allay fears in Beijing that the White House was forcing China to relinquish one of the world’s hottest technology properties—or face a ban in the critical U.S. market. At least in the short term, people close to the company and market observers described the arrangement as a win for China and for ByteDance.

$5 billion to US government and $5 billion to Trump foundation via Larry Ellison after his presidency!

It was never about algorithms. It was always about getting paid.

Maybe need a vote among all Chinese people to support your statement.

It was a stupid donkey, always deceived

So what did it do—was there money paid to certain candidates?

Seems contrary to the stated reason for transferring ownership away from the Chinese. Much greater tech talent here in America, surprising we can't create something much better in America.

Yeah, no. Ban it.

Potentially algorithm may be manipulated to intentionally ignore some posts and upvote other posts. I hope I am wrong.

It's just the us part of the business. And it's kickback to Trump supporter Ellison.

But it looks good to Trump followers, because he says so.

Ha ragione Tramp!

With all the tech talent we have in the US, why don’t we launch our own app or even resurrect a profitable version Vine, which was incredibly popular and better than TikTok per the teens & 20’s I know well. TikTok tiktokexposed

Another one of the Master Negotiator’s fantastic deals.

Not if the data is firewalled.

TRUMP WAS JUST MAD BECAUSE THEY PRANKED HIM AT HIS TULSA RALLY. HE’S SO VERY CHILDISH, GET OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE AND STOP DESTROYING AMERICA.

realistically, the yanks were never in a position to get their hands on that.

in chinese... they would say trump lost face in this stupid fuckery 🤣

Operation and algo in Chinese hands? So it ain’t about privacy and more like money coming in for making it a US. based company ☕️ 🐸
