Set to be one of the largest-ever acquisitions in the video game industry, Microsoft says it has reached a $7.5 billion deal to acquire ZeniMax Media — the parent company of video game publisher Bethesda Softworks.

"We're still Bethesda. We're still working on the same games we were yesterday, made by the same studios we've worked with for years, and those games will be published by us," Pete Hines, Bethesda's senior vice president of PR and marketing, said in a."[The deal] allows us to make even better games going forward. Microsoft is an incredible partner and offers access to resources that will make us a better publisher and developer.

Gamers flocked to social media to react to the news. Some were excited about the new games coming to Game Pass, while otherscould mean that future Bethesda games would be exclusive to Xbox and PC. Bethesda currently publishes games on multiple platforms. Microsoft and Bethesda representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the deal, which includes publishing offices and development studios with over 2,300 employees.
