Northwestern Mutual's chief strategist told us the 6 market drivers he's watching most closely amid the volatility — and broke down where he's putting his money over the next 9-12 months

Northwestern Mutual's Brent Schutte breaks down the market drivers he's looking at most closely, and where he's putting his money.Brent Schutte believes that there's likely little that will stop the continued economic recovery — and the broadening bull market that will follow.

From a 9-12-month outlook, he isn't too worried about a second wave of coronavirus: "Look, I think even if there's a spike, we have to remember that we are going to be getting information in the next few weeks on possibly the efficacy, safety of multiple vaccines, and I think that quite frankly will outweigh any near-term spike in COVID," he told Business Insider by phone on Wednesday.

He says that while it's a risk that Congress may fail to pass another round of fiscal stimulus, the recovery is moving quickly enough and savings rates are high enough to support the economy through a rough patch. Still, Schutte says he's keeping his finger on all of these pulses and more as he manages his clients' money. Northwestern Mutual has $290.3 billion in total assets.
