People are getting paid to write this BS, I need a job here, I write crap all the time for free on twitter 🤦🏽‍♀️

Ah, America.

What women will carry the same bag every day for 10 years?

If you carry it everyday for 50 years. LOL. 🙄

What a stupid story. Will the company give me this bag for £2.60/day for 10 years? No.

what is this garbage

Are you nuts- no bag is worth that kind of money - guess that is where the trickledown goes

Under no circumstances would I pay $9,500 for a handbag, and cost-per-wear is a ridiculous metric. Maybe that's why I'm happily retired while I'm still young enough to have a blast with my free time and my considerable savings. None of my ~6 cute handbags cost me more than $50.

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard, unless your talking about occupational or utilitarian apparel.

Right! LOL

You high or something?

how about if you live in it.. free rent!..

Dont waste money on garbage. Here is a URL for quality leather hand crafted in Old Mexico.

Reminds me of my SIL penchant for small tight high heels that no one cares about. She'll wear them and expect you to comment on them. Did I mention we live in a small Northern city in Saskatchewan, Canada? I forgot to mention she's obese.

Davidlaz For a while there Birkin bags were being pushed as sound investments. I guess if you're in that bracket go ahead and buy one for use and one into storage and pick up some Hermès silk Squares to accessorize. (And yes, the gap is widening)

Does a $9,500.00 handbag look it on the arm ? If not I’ll stick with the $ 95.00 Thank you very much. 😊

Well, now that you put it that way, I’ll just run out and buy a $10k handbag. Also, GFY

Holy hell this is ridiculous.

Is this an ad?

Paying zero dollars to read zero of your articles feels like the best investment of both my money and my time. Can someone please double check my math?

Cost per wear - now I’ve heard everything.

I dont know about everyone else but $9500 will buy lots of travel which is far more interesting that handbag..

This is just a marketing for Hermes, remind the brand to all :))

That’s every day for ten years, which is obviously what anyone who buys high fashion does. Likewise, most folks I know have had the same handbag, carried daily, for 10 years. (This is why people talk about eating the rich.)

Demasiado dinero por sólo un bolso.

Poshmark!

Don’t try and “costpertize” a luxury item. It’s made for fashion and luxury. This type of analysis probably kills the brand.

Davidlaz Yea and a $35 gym bag has cost me a penny per use; so what!

This is an advertorial 🙄

Or.....$20 in outside gate of Osan AB South Korea SkivvyNine TellThemLCsentYou

A $9,500 Hermes handbag could be just $2.60 per wear over time. Why you should consider the gender pay gap is a giant lie the next time you go shopping.

How utterly tone deaf.

Davidlaz what a deal! give me two!

Please help our planet with your successful life. Sick children, dying children, please help

Anyone who spends $9500 per bag is likely not using said bag that often. They prob have a dozen more.

That's just brilliant. Eye opening. Thank you wsj! Idiots...

Yes, but a $95 bag from the consignment shop will be only $0.026 per wear over time. Spending that kind of money on a bag is not justifiable under any circumstances. There are far better uses of money.

HumansOfLate

oh my god this is so important thank you for devoting time to this it really puts the important things in life into perspective sorry this is one run on sentence i am tweeting it as i jump off this briiiiiiiiiiiidge

Or a $100 bag can be pennies per wear and I'll still have $9,400 in my pocket.

Seriously? The US can’t pay for Medicare or Social Security, but can afford tax cuts for people to spend $10,000 on a handbag? And the WSJ wants to justify it?

Which means a $95 handbag could be just 26 cents per wear over time. Why you should consider an item's cost-per-wear the next time you go shopping. Just sayin...

That cost per wear is if you used the same bag every single day, 365/yr for 10 years. Which is clearly absurd. And consider you could buy a $50 bag and use that every day for just 1yr and it would only be $0.13 per wear. You can't make a $10,000 bag sound economical.

Over time. You mean like 3,600 times? Every day for 10 years?

Hell no

How much Hermes pay for that tweet, bruh … Come on, fess up ...
