A new study says Anambra, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, and Rivers states have the most efficient healthcare services in Nigeria.
“We used 27 indicators that measured performance in four domains important to policy makers, providers, patients, and the public: care process, access, equity, and healthcare outcomes. “The top half of the list was dominated by states from the southern part of the country, with the highest-ranking state from the north, Nasarawa, coming in at the 13th spot,” the study author, Dr. Obi Igbokwe, noted.
Igbokwe added that in ranking the states, an index score for each metric for each state was created and, in each metric, the top state, based on the raw data, was given one point, while the bottom state was given 37 points. “This demonstrates a huge disparity in the delivery of healthcare services that can occur between the states.
“This is why states like Osun, Enugu and Ondo deserve special mention because, despite their smaller budgets when compared with some of their peers, they performed really well to find themselves in the top 10 best performing states,” Igbokwe said.
