PETALING JAYA: Women will continue to have the opportunity to excel in the Malaysian maritime industry, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister said the resolution was reached following a meeting with the Women In Maritime Association Malaysia and also teleconference with International Maritime Organisation representative Helen Buni, who is based in London.

Buni is the principal assistant of IMO’s Women in Maritime programme under its technical cooperation division. “It provides a platform for Malaysian women to build their own networks, share best practices and strengthen the role of women in the maritime sector, ” he said, adding that MyWIMA was an important platform to obtain support from IMO through the Women In Maritime programme.
