We knew predators were using dating apps to abuse women but revelations this week indicate it is 'baked in' to a toxic business model.

' Monday expose of the way dating apps, Tinder in particular, capitalise on women being abused and predators getting away with it., and who revealed the lack of support or action to catch the perpetrators, left no doubt the wealthy businesses behind the apps are complicit.

Given how lightly the big apps take their responsibility to protect women as well as they exploit our deep engagement with the platforms, we should not be surprised. These giants have shown time and again that our safety doesn't matter, and banked on us being too addicted to care. "You also need to remember that often misogyny is baked into these platforms. Facebook, for example, was created to rate whether girls were hot or not. It was never created as a platform where everyone got a voice and women’s safety was a priority. Quite the opposite, in fact."

It should not be up to individual social media users, including those who go on dating apps, to hold the masters of the tech universe accountable. They and government regulation should be doing that much better.

You wouldn't get into a stranger's car..so why go to a Tinder box date and get into a stranger's bed. Respect yourself.. It's not Take Away.. that's Fast food.

The government can act on this. We shouldn't allow dating app companies to get away with profiting off horrible acts.
