The Australian’s Editor-at-Large Paul Kelly says NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has been “significantly compromised” regarding evidence handed over by disgraced former MP Daryl Maguire at the ICAC inquiry on Wednesday. During the cross-examination by the ICAC inquiry, Mr Maguire admitted he was a secret director of Gateway International which sold access to some of the highest levels of Australian Government. Premier Berejiklian strongly denied knowing of Mr Maguire’s investment in the company.
“The evidence today from Daryl Maguire was devastating in terms of his admissions to a series of misdemeanors, in terms of the way he used his parliamentary office for personal gain,” Mr Kelly told Sky News host Peta Credlin. Mr Kelly said the evidence Mr Maguire brings to the table “directly affects the premier” but does not leave Ms Berejiklian “guilty of corrupt conduct in terms of anything she’s done or failed to do”.
