Members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday debated the general principles of the 2021 Appropriation Bill, raising concerns over deficit and borrowing plan to finance the budget.

Leading debates on the budget, the Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, noted that the Federal Government was able to achieve between 50 to 60 per cent implementation rate. Namdas said, “I can say that the little worrisome thing in this 2021 budget is that we just have to borrow, which means that we are going to finance our budget through borrowing, and we are expected to borrow close to N4.7tn.”

Another lawmaker, Abubakar Yinusa, stated that the lawmakers had the powers to tamper with the budget pursuant to Section 80 of the Constitution.
