With nearly 1 in 3 Americans saying their financial situation is worse this year, 38% of respondents said they plan to spend less money this holiday season, which Rabouin reports is the highest share since the Great Recession.reported that holiday sales in November and December usually make up about 20% of US retail sales in a year.
The Deloitte report notes that the two main reasons respondents said they plan to cut spending are because they are worried about the current economic situation and because they want to save money.
