Joe Biden said that he would 'transition' the economy away from fossil fuel at the final presidential debate.

, for instance, the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication and George Mason University found that 62 percent of all registered voters supported eliminating all federal subsidies for the fossil fuel industry — including 70 percent of Democrats, 53 percent of independents and 54 percent of Republicans.

Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, who defeated McCaskill in 2018, tweeted:"Biden is going to end USA energy independence & destroy the remaining blue collar jobs in this country so we can go back to being dependent on foreign oil and embroiled in endless Mideast wars. Great plan."Wyoming GOP Rep.

Rep. Kendra Horn, a freshman lawmaker who became the first Democrat to win Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District seat in 44 years, tweeted that she disagreed with Biden. "It's not just the names that you see at your gas station," Brettell said."It's the guys on the rig. It's the guys driving the water truck. It's the helicopter pilots who fly those folks offshore."

"We are proud of the grit, innovation and progress we've made so that Americans no longer have to choose between environmental progress and access to affordable, reliable and cleaner energy. And we aren't going anywhere.”

Who in their right mind thinks that we can continue to use fossil fuels indefinitely? The transition has to happen and will happen regardless of what Trump or Biden say. It's inevitable. Biden is just being honest and that is something that we should all welcome and appreciate.

According to a poll taken yesterday: 28% voters oppose transitioning away from the oil industry. 52% of independents *support* transitioning away. 41% of Republicans *support* transitioning away.

Don’t forget the president claims he is most non-racist,

zoey302 Talk about this

Why wouldn't the U S. transition away from an energy source that won't last forever and pollutes the air we need to live?

Transitioning from fossil fuels as the main source of energy is a logical and sane idea. It's a new industrialized revolution that should attract being wanted. Fossil fuels are unsustainable and we know this but there's a few that are unwilling to save our planet and it's future.

This is an obvious truth. How can this be controversial?

Almost all coments from accounts created in 2020. Looks like the companies behind fake accounts and news are working hard to try to convince the people

Is he going to pay for our new electric cars?

Sooooo... He’s been lying up until the debate then? He’s as bad as HilLIARy with the truth.

Fossil fuels are a limited resource, we need to transition away from it. The term transition also means training the oil workers for a new job. Not just shutting the factory. There’s a process and Biden has a plan.

Great idea ... but it won’t be done

Yes and he cocked up as he lost several million votes in the process.

It's wise policy to be at the forefront of the next gen technology and energy sector, we should lead and not follow like trump.

Honesty is the best policy. I think we should be going green to save the earth. All this drilling is harming our earth plates, I read today a oil rig is tilting in the ocean how many animal lives will be loss. Oil has been around, but now it is time for change now. Go Green.

No it shows trump is stuck in the past, history at 1 point kerosene lighted are sky then came power and oil now comes solar plus it saves are planet it's called evolution it's how mankind has progressed it's for the salvation of the planet and the human race, embrace it.

Did you look into Biden's eyes? If you didn't how do you know if he was telling a lie then or now?

During the debate Biden admitted that he would end fracking on Federal land. Biden is bad for America. MAGA

transition has already happened

We’re desperate for O&G to come back in alberta - our canadian province has been decimated. Don’t think it’s gonna happen. Too many lefties putting all eggs into climate basket. We need it for the transition but I don’t think they get that. We have a decade of pain ahead.

Joe blew it on that issue.

It’s only a 30 year transition, there’s no panic, no rush.

It will over time...the transition is to help oil companies to move to a greener product with government support...they are already moving in that direction

A:. There's NOT a never ending supply of oil...... B:. It's DESTROYING the environment!!!.... We SHOULD HAVE started 'transitioning' 50 years ago !!!!

NBC clarifying a position by a political campaign! This is not journalism but instead a campaign contribution.

He's right that fossil fuels are polluting the environment. There have been strides to make vehicles more efficient, but this only reduces the emissions, not eliminates them. What Joe emphasized though is that this will take time as we transition to alternatives, along with jobs

Republicans are REALLY desperate to try to make something out of this nothing. Even in the oil industry, gradual transitioning from fossil fuels is expected. They’re not sustainable.

Tell that to the automobile and bus people, the airlines, and the train and cruise ship industries. Nothing will change in this century. We are too reliant on it. Good luck Joe with that.

Period! Just don’t take him out of context.

A transition away from powering everything from oil? Sounds great. Would love to have policy actually slightly match what is scientists and engineers have been calling for. Some Oil will always be needed for all the numerous products which are based on oil.

Because he CARES about the environment and the planet, like millions of like-minded Americans!

Joe is a LIAR!!! He can’t keep his stories straight! Vote Trump! VOTE TRUMP! TrumpPence2020 MAGA bidenISaLIAR

Back to burning wood and whale oil

It's about time someone did it. They have owned the world to our disadvantage for too long. The oil industry has been raping us for years.

Screw that! You want oil workers (making close to $50 an hour) to making windmills (paying $12 an hour)

Joe Biden cancelling “fossil fuel” also cancels around 7 million jobs.

Agreed

Sounds great.

Right, that’s the direction we’re going on. I’m not sure why this is even controversial.

If this tweet was meant to incite anger, you don’t have a good pulse on the people, NBC. Most people are relieved to hear that a politician will finally take global warming seriously. Also, fossil fuel supplies are not infinite on earth.

That’s the right thing to do. Those who want to hang on to their oil drilling and coal digging jobs should learn a new skill. Never to late to start. But if they choose to vote for Trump just to keep their old world climate ruining jobs they don’t deserve any sympathy.

Eventually and that’s a damn great thing for our children and our next generations to come! We have to start thinking of ways to save this planet and it can’t be done by a POTUS who doesn’t take interest in it. Stay woke people! VoteBidenHarris2020

Perhaps it’s because I live in Texas —there is no “news” here. The major oil companies have been making huge investments in renewable energy sources for years because they know we’re already transitioning Tesla, Ford, GM as well. Biden did not say it well but it’s still a fact

At least he finally was truthful. Even though it was a slip up!

We need individual homes to be equipped with renewal energy

In the end, the market is stronger than any president. If it is time for fossil fuels to go, it will be due to market forces, not presidential edict.

Biden is correct. It is the right course for the future.

That took guts! Go Joe JoeBiden

Being that we're running out of oil probably a pretty good idea

It's a long time coming. We need to move from our dependency on a finite resource.

I think this is great!

Does trump have polling that a majority of Americans want to continue using fossil fuels?

Agree and I own an oil well

People need to realize that fossil fuels is harming the planet. It is also a finite resource.

Haven’t they been trying to go away from fossil fuels now for the last 10 years that’s not new news get something new

And China Joe said no fracking lol! Typical lying career politician.

Good. It's about time this started happening. Climate change has warned about for 50+ years or more. There were network news specials about the warming climate in the early '70s. It's past time to do that!!

MeetThePress Sounds good 👍🏼

How about all those coal jobs from 2016? Smells the same. Market forces are like the pandemic. Adapt or die.

More propaganda one of Bidens network he said he never said anything about prohibiting fracking and he did. It's hard to track of his LIES .He's reimagining the past. .

Such good news for the future of our kids...in the FUTURE TODAY did Trump say 'good' in regards to the 500+ kids that are unable to find their parents? Did he justify this heinous situation by saying these kids were well taken care of? Honestly, you are the reason we have Trump

Awesome

Biden wants us to live in the mud huts.

YES! Thank God someone said it out loud and proud!

Hahahahaha.... he is addressing children with that!

इंडिया में आए जा भाई

We can’t claim to be the best country in the world if we continue to fall behind.

Just like the rest of the world. It’s America caught up they are years behind

Lol “Trump seizes”!! I’m sure voters in OK, PA, TX aren’t going to focus on Trump seizing so much as Biden proclamation of ending fracking, fossil fuel, and oil. It’s amazing the things Biden says when he’s not kept away from public.

Joe's been a politician for 47 years...he will say anything he thinks will get him elected. Even a fake story about the man who was driving the truck that his wife pulled in front of.

To be fair, its not a renewable resource, it will eventually dry up. We need to look for more renewable energy sources.

Only here, among developed nations, is the conversation about whether moving off fossil fuels is a good idea rather than about how we’re going to get it done. We’re lucky the younger generation doesn’t just kill us in our sleep. Our disregard for their future borders on criminal.

meh

Transition the economy to Iran. We will be dependent on middle east oil again.

President realDonaldTrump makes it look easy, but you cannot overstate the historic WINS he has achieved on the world stage! Flag of United States Flag of Israel Flag of United Arab Emirates Israel-UAE peace, Bahrain Israel, Sudan-Israel and Kosovo Serbia!g of Kosovo Serbia

Yup as an oil field worker, I agree. Look how many people keep getting unemployed because of the bad swings it has, it will never be 100$ a barrel again. But it will be in good time.

America is falling behind the rest of the world, even big oil and gas companies are investing tons of money in transitioning to more renewable resources. Joe's plans will help us lead into the future, trump's will hold us back even further

Saying you'll stop burning things for energy we've been using since the 19th century is not a bad thing. And it's not even a losing argument. The only ones that care are the rich oil tycoons that refuse to change. And they're the ones hurting the workforce.
