KUALA LUMPUR: There is no plan to introduce a National Health Insurance Programme to provide health coverage to all Malaysians, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri said this is because the government allocates about RM30.6bil per year to provide high quality health services to the people.

“This is something that we should be proud of, “ he told Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew during Question Time. Abdul Rahim said the government had introduced several initiatives to improve healthcare services coverage, including the MySalam initiative, which provides takaful protection for those aged 18-65 years old covering 45 critical illnesses.

The scheme which covers those aged 40 and above provides recipients with incentives in health screening, health aid and transportation incentive.
