Apple will pay $113 million to settle a 'batterygate' investigation into its practice of intentionally slowing down old iPhones

Apple will pay $113 million in a settlement for an investigation into its past practice of intentionally slowing down people's iPhones.

The payout is the latest Apple has made in regard to the matter — the company paid $500 million to settle a class-action lawsuit in May. Apple admitted to slowing phones down in 2017 and said it was to prevent old batteries from randomly shutting devices off, not to force customers to buy newer smartphone models, as some believed.Apple will pay a $113 million settlement in an investigation into the company's practice of intentionally slowing old iPhones down, a move that some customers perceived as a tactic to force them into purchasing new, more expensive models.

The so-called "batterygate" scandal dates back to 2017 when customers began noticing that their devices were slowing down after downloading new versions of Apple's software. Apple at the time did admit that the updates indeed slowed down the phones to prevent their aging batteries from causing the devices to randomly shut down.

Only $300 fine equivalent to them.

And who gets all that money?

Overated_____

Embarrassing for consumers.

Chump change.

Does that money go to the affected iPhone users?

Sounds like a bargain for Apple

and 20 miilion operation cost. OK so we made $50 million in profit. OK lets do it. Start operation 'super fraud' says the CEO of mega corp.

Im tired of Mega corps paying fines 10-15% of the actual money they made. This doesnt slow down or stop criminal or unethical behavior. I encourages it. It then a business decision. OK so we will make $100 million for fraud, pay 15 million for legal, 15 million for fine

Never thought they would do nasty things

They should pay billions or even trillions for this fucking shit

Apple customer service is a mess.....that should be up next.

Too little too late. By the way, Microsoft plasmthe same game.

Tim went to his golf bag ...pulled the cash and gave it to them ... GFYS now lol
