A tiny owl is recovering after it was found tucked away in the branches of Rockefeller Center's Christmas tree in New York City. The Ravensbeard Wildlife Center in Saugerties, New York, said it received a telephone call on Monday morning from a woman who said her husband discovered the owl while working for the company that transports and secures the iconic tree in Rockefeller Center.
The nation’s largest school district will shut its doors on Thursday as novel coronavirus rates in New York City creep upward and case numbers climb across the country. Meanwhile, even public health experts questioned the move, pointing out that schools have not proved to be likely transmission hotspots and that the city's bars and restaurants are more likely drivers of coronavirus spread.
Michael Lang, an 18-year-old who grew up in a close-knit community in La Grange, Illinois, was ready for the next chapter in his life: college. The teen, who loved the outdoors and fishing, wasn't anxious about heading off to the University of Dayton during the pandemic. Students were tested before going to campus per university policy, and many of Michael's friends had COVID-19 in July and recovered within several weeks, she said.
